Have you ever finished reading a great blog post or watching an inspiring video, only to find yourself wondering… “Now what?”
If you’ve left your audience in that “marketing limbo,” don’t worry. I’ve been there too.
If you look back at some of my earlier YouTube videos, you might find me sharing a heap of great ideas but forgetting to tell you exactly how to take the next step.
I’ve learned the hard way that without a clear Call to Action (CTA), your visibility is only doing half the job.
I like to think of marketing as a connected ecosystem. If your content is the leaves and branches, the CTA is the path that leads people deeper into the tree back to the trunk so they can climb higher.
What Exactly is a Call to Action?
In the simplest terms, a Call to Action is a clear instruction that tells your audience what to do next. It’s the bridge between them consuming your knowledge and taking an action that benefits their business (and yours).
A CTA isn’t always about “Buy Now.” It can be:
- “Download this checklist”
- “Book a strategic coffee chat”
- “Join the conversation in the comments”
- “Sign up for my next workshop”
Why Are CTAs So Important?
We often hesitate to include a CTA because we don’t want to feel “salesy” or pushy. But here’s a shift in perspective for you: A clear CTA is actually a service to your audience.
When you provide valuable education and then leave them hanging, you’re creating friction. You’ve sparked an idea or solved a problem, and now they want to know how to keep that momentum going. By giving them a clear next step, you are:
- Reducing Decision Fatigue: You’re making it easy for them to stay connected with you without having to hunt for the “how.”
- Building Trust: A CTA shows that you have a plan and a path for them to follow.
- Measuring Impact: It helps you move past “vanity metrics” (like likes) and see what is actually resonating and driving movement.
The Impact of a Great CTA
When you start including clear, simple calls to action in every piece of content, you’ll notice a shift in your business momentum. You’ll see:
- Higher Engagement: People are much more likely to comment or share when they are specifically asked to.
- Stronger Relationships: Each small action (like joining an email list) is a brick in the foundation of trust.
- A Sustainable Ecosystem: Your content, PR, and social media all start working together to guide people toward your core offers, like the Ideas, Impact & Marketing Circle.
Got 5 Minutes? Add a CTA Today
You don’t need a complex strategy to start. Take a look at your last three social media posts or your latest blog. Did you tell people what to do next?
If not, try this for your next post:
- Identify the goal: What is the one thing you want them to do?
- Keep it simple: Use active language (e.g., “Grab your copy here” instead of “Information is available”).
- Give them permission: Sometimes people just need to be told it’s okay to take the next step.
Remember, marketing is about relationships, and relationships grow through clear communication. Give your audience the guide they need to keep moving forward.
